Online networking

The more people visit and the more pages they visit on your blog, the more popular your blog becomes because search engine algorithm uses visitor counts and pages views to rank webpages.

Hence please try to encourage readers to comment on posts, link your posts from their sites, share the post and subscribe to your blog. Visit other blogs, invite others to check out your blog posts and link back to increase the number of links back to your blog.

Visit and post you blog’s link on other sites or online group and blogs would also be very helpful.  Why not join groups such as Google plus communities in your specialty, comment regularly on related social networking sites and use your blog’s address as the signature.

Update new content regularly

Post on a regular basis has proven to increase popularity and traffic to the blog; the secret here is post as frequently as you can!

Using keywords

Post about relevant content found on web and ensure to include keywords in the post; label each post with keywords; create hyperlink for post keywords to link to useful and relevant resources.  And don’t forget to include keywords in the post title.

Use meta tags

Metatag is a line of HTML code that describes your blog; although many search engines have stopped using meta codes in their algorithms anymore because so many people abused meta keywords; but it won’t hurt to include them in the code.

Install share buttons

Be sure to have share buttons on your blog, under the posts.

Share buttons include those for social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, Buzz, MySpace, Email, and more. It allows and encourages readers to share your blog posts on other social networking platforms and most importantly with other potential readers.

There is also a short video to help you to better understand share buttons.

  2. Adding share buttons to your website is something that is a little controversial lately. The concept of adding sharing buttons is fine, it all depends on the implementation.

Most of us (myself included), just use the widgets that Facebook, Twitter etc provide, because they look nice and have some nice features.

There are a couple of disadvantages though:

    1. Facebook, Twitter etc can track websites that a particular user of that service visits if sites they visit have share button code on them, thanks to 3rd party cookies.

    2. They take longer to load.

Scott Hanselman discusses this here: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/AddSocialSharingLinksToYourBlogWithoutWidgetJavaScript.aspx

    1. Thank you for sharing that information! I haven't heard about the concern of share buttons yet; it is definitely something we should all think about.

But although implementing Facebook and Twitter share buttons has its disadvantages, I still would think its benefit will overcome its risks; simply because there are millions of people utilising these platforms and we really want to encourage and make it easy for them to spread the post around in those communities.
